Oh Amber, you're a true fan. Thanks. I just today finished the final draft of "Well of Life" after getting notes from an editor, so that's consumed my writing life as of late. Hi! Thanks for your comment on my work. To answer your question, I included the "Japanese mattress" to build that particular character up as one of those young, "go natural" sort of people -- all organic, all natural etc. Basically the woman took over the defunct school district in this rural town in exchange for housing and pre/postnatal care. She came in from somewhere else. Thanks for the comment; I'll try to expand and make it a little clearer!
