Thank you very much for your critique! You did an excellent job of letting me know what you got from the story.
To be honest, though, I'm not too sure how an unusual spelling of a name can jar the reader. It's the same as inventing/creating a new name for a character in my opinion; it's weird at first, sure, but eventually you get used to it. Plus, I try never to make anything usual in my works.
