The line, but to decieve, meant just what you said, they preach a little truth and suck people into their flock, and some are only there for the money,, some start out good and get caught up in pride and fall. thanks for the critique! You are the first person to appreciate the first stanza, and that's what got me writing the poem in the first place! I'm so glad you liked it! And I appreciate your input, but I'm a sucker for rhyming, so I guess I made a sacrifice there for my own personal gain . Either way, I appreciate it a lot, thank you!

Thanks for reading Volunteers. I'm glad you liked it, and like I said, I wrote it a lot of years ago. I've changed a lot since then, but I do still like this poem. It has so much emotion in it. And I agree with you. I like that line"lone surrvivor takes to his wings, a mournful wait, his dirge to sing, too. Thanks for your input. I mainly just wanted to see if people liked it, or if it was just a bunch of ranting and raving.
