A Little Facelift!

We’re excited to release a front page redesign that we’ve been working on for a while now.  Now you’ll be able to get to what matters to you faster–latest site activity is at the top right instead of being below the blog entries.  The blog entries themselves are condensed to take up less room and to be easier to scan.  You’ll now see community news closer to the top as well.

We’ve also removed the “Newest Works” and “Need Some Love” sections for now.  Think of it as an experiment.  We’re curious to see if works on the review queue would get more critiques if they’re the only list on the front page.  We’ll be keeping an eye on what happens, and if it doesn’t make much of a difference, we might bring back “Newest Works” and “Need Some Love.”

Let us know what you think of the new layout in the comments or in the forums!

eenteresting! my first impression is positive, especially the datemarks on the community blog--i must meditate on this, revisit the front page and peruse...
That was definitely a "Whoa, wait a minute.. oh" moment. I like how you condensed and date stamped the blog entires. I have to say, I understand trying to shift focus to the review queue, but I kind of liked the "Need some love" and "Newest works" lists. Maybe that's just me, though. Overall, I like it. I guarantee I'm going to be confused when I open the homepage still, for at least a week or so.
We're going to keep an eye on how the review queue does over the coming weeks, and we'll definitely be playing around more with the front page layout.  You might very well see "Newest Works" and "Need Some Love"-- In the meantime, you can at least see the newest works from the "Browse" tab. Thanks for the feedback!
Woah! I was just here an hour ago, and now it's way different! I understand the usefulness of this layout change, but I think the new page looks really cluttered and unappealing. Appearance, though not the most, is still important -- especially for new people who don't know how the site works. I could see newcomers finding this setup a little overwhelming and hard to navigate.
