Shakin’ Up That Can of Raid

Hello authors!  We’ve just fixed a bug related to circle invites.  Some people who are invited to a circle and subsequently accept aren’t automatically subscribed to the circle.  Being a member and being subscribed are two different things–when you subscribe, you receive email updates from the circle, which you can unsubscribe from without actually leaving the circle.

If you haven’t been getting emails with updates for your circles, make sure to visit the circle page and click “subscribe.”

Karma Tweaks and the Review Queue

We’ve gone through a lot of changes to the karma system over the past few weeks, hopefully all for the better.  We have one more tweak to introduce before we sit back and let the dust settle a little bit.   The change is this: extra karma points per word will now only be awarded to critiques of works that are on the review queue.

That means that you can still earn karma by critiquing works that aren’t on the queue; you’ll just earn a little less, depending on how much you write.  Since we’ve raised the cost to publish a work, we hope that more members will focus on critiquing the review queue to earn those karma points.

We’re always in the process of tweaking the system, so you can expect more changes down the line.  Let us know how karma is working for you!

ooh, intriguing. my only kneejerk question is this: a few of the circles focus on weekly posting and reviewing of new short stories--if these stories haven't yet made it on the official queue, we'll kinda be left out a bit, yes? as far as karma goes? (and yes, i realize the irony in worrying about being compensated properly for karma. ) perhaps i'm mistaken and someone will correct my thinking on this.
woah, interesting. in theory, this should work. we'll see how it goes!
Laurie, to answer your question, yes--if you critique a work that's not in the queue, including works in circles that haven't been on the queue or have already been on the queue, then you'll receive fewer karma points.  But you'll still receive SOME karma points--in fact, the same amount that you've been receiving since we started awarding karma per word. We think that this is a good middle ground between allowing people to critique whatever they want and yet emphasizing the review queue as the place to look to first.  Again, we'll be keeping an eye on things, so you can expect more tweaks in the future.
thanks, scribey. yes, i am greedy for karma. *mmmm.....karma.* (i should work on that. )
Stop tweaking my karma, or I'll tell my Daddy on you!
