Hello writers!

We’re super excited to finally launch Scribophile, the social writing workshop and writer’s community. We’ve been mashing our keyboards like crazy for a pretty long time trying to put together the best place for writers of all stripes to get together, communicate, exchange ideas, and grow.

Some of you curious types may be scratching your heads and muttering, “Social writing workshop? What the heck does that mean?” Well, think of it this way: the traditional writing workshop can be small, intimidating, harsh, a pain to get to, and often just plain unhelpful. So we figured, hey, there’s a whole lot of writers out there in the world and online… why not build a web site that lets all of them meet in one place and workshop together?

And so here we are! At Scribophile you can post your works, get invaluable critiques and feedback, and meet tons of other writers who share your interests.  There’s no hours or limits on skill level, and instead of 10 people in a room, you’ve got the entire social power of the internet to help you get that poem or novel off the ground.  You also keep all the rights to your works.  Why write by yourself at Starbuck’s when you can write with an entire community at your back?

Anyone can join for free and be part of our awesome community. Read on for some highlights of being a member:

  • Get great critiques.
Publish your works-in-progress for the community to review. Each new work spends some quality time in the Review Queue on the Scribophile front page, where other writers can review it, critique it, and give feedback. Don’t want your work available to the public? Restrict it to registered members or make it for your eyes only.
  • Share the love.
A karma system ensures that nobody can publish without first having given feedback to the community—you’re practically guaranteed to get a few readers for whatever you publish. Read what other writers have published and let them know what you think.
  • Meet other writers.
Create a personal profile page to expose your work to the world and meet other writers who like what you like. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet the co-author of your next bestseller!
  • Be a part of a great community.
Chat with other writers in our forums, or leave them messages on their profiles. Discover new favorites, keep in touch with your fans, and make new friends.
  • Publish your finished works as eBooks.
Once you’ve put the finishing touches on your magnum opus, Scribophile can turn it into a PDF eBook, perfect for distribution online or in print.
  • Win fabulous prizes.
Enter our writing contests for prizes so fabulous that they would make even the likes of Bob Barker (who, we’re told, is the undisputed king of fabulous prizes) tremble with jealousy.

We’ve also assembled a crack team of writers to publish regular articles on writing, reading, and the English language. We’ll help explain the things that make a good novel, how to appreciate poetry, what to do when the words just don’t flow, fun and interesting analyses of great works of literature, and a whole lot of other stuff that’ll keep your writing sharp and your ear tuned.

So go ahead, create an account and start writing—we can’t wait to start reading!
