June Challenge

Works
Thanks for all your hard work. I shouldacouldawoulda'd it this time, but I'm not gone yet. Hope there is another challenge soon, but wiht the school year coming up, maybe a slightly different pace or something would fit better with me. Teaching takes a lot of time and I will have a new school a new administration, a new subject, and a new and older crop of kids. So 30 in 30 is kinda hard to picture.
Anyway, thanks for putting it out there.
And thank you for your hard work.

Well the month came and went.
Stories were written, some made it, others fell short. It doesn’t
matter though. All who try won.
Now that you’ve experienced the task of trying to write something
and forcing yourself through it just because you have to do it:
Take a break and relax.
By now you must have learned a bit
or two about developing an idea asap, and turning it in to a story.
That in essence was what this was all about. Learning how to stop
thinking and well, just write stuff down on the page.
Sorry for not posting mine. I wrote them in a note book with pen
and paper. I was busy working on them that at the end of the day
transferring them to the computer was the last thing I wanted to
do. I am sure many of you had a moment or two when you came close
to breaking. Where the idea of not writing seems like it’s a jolly
good thing to do.
Finding that limit is useful. When you can find it, and push it
back a little bit at a time, you’ll grow exponentially.
At the very least, you can now say “Hey, you wrote one story? Back
in june I managed to write X stories…”
Well done indeed, dnm!
I got six, so I guess I'm the loser. It was fun, though, and helpful, I guess. Probably would not have been fun by the end, so I'm really amazed at dnm's stamina.
I only managed to get 8. But good work dnm! You must be on something pretty crazy.
Thanks to all for the congrats ![]()
Congratulations to DNM!
I only managed to get nine done. That's almost one every three days on average, a huge improvement for me. Thanks for Torq for lighting that fire under us. I wonder if we will all be around next June to do it again.

Well done, dnm! (Bloody exhausting exercise, and I only turned up for the last bit...!)
woohoooo!!!! ![]()
congratulations, dnm--you deserve a nice appletini and footrub! *hoists dnm up on her shoulders and parades around the living room*
Believe it or not, I'm done. Thirty stories
Some of them are
a little frightening, but they're all there.
Hey hey now. Don't rush this. It's only 10 AM. I still have two stories to write, and I plan to finish them before midnight. I've got 28 done; I'm certainly not stopping two shy of finishing this.
How did everyone else make out?
And where in the world is Torq?
well, it's june 30th -- BIG thanks to torq for the fabulous
suggestion of this month's challenge!
i had fun, ending the month with my paltry 8(?) stories? whee!!
(hey, 8 more than i had may 31st...
)
Moderators -- I'm sorry; I really messed this up. Could my story post below be deleted? I think I've worked out how to publish now!!?
Very sorry.
Laos
I've missed a lot, some of my one page things exploded into the story I'm currently finishing a little bit rabidly, and I always feel guilty writing these when I could be writing something longer.
Yeah, I echo the exhaustion thing.
I'll try to catch up; I will probably not publish any more until I publish a big ol' bash sometime next week or the week after.
Agreed.
I think fifteen days may have been my limit. I've officially lost all motivation.
i was! the past few days, i've been having trouble getting anything down on paper. i'm back now, albeit three days behind. *sigh*
is anyone else struggling to keep these down to one page long stories?
I've gotten behind on posting these. They're mostly written down in my notebook, and all, but yeah. I am dreadfully behind. My apologies, and i'll try to get most of them up tomorrow.
Thanks
I'm still floundering a little, but I'm trying
not to.
congrats to dnm, who is rocking this challenge so far!! go, dnm,
go!
good advice, torq--thank you!
Things to think about when
Commenting:
Don’t Comment on the Whole
Unlike other stories, you cant really critique Start Middle and
End. Most of these stories are just scenes. Focus your critiques on
the pieces that make up scenes. Word choices, sentience that work
really hard to give all that information. Or just comment on things
related to the scene. If the scene is a dialog between four people
at a dinner table, Does it seem like authentic dinner table talk?
If the scene is a first person narrative about a woman waiting
on a bus, how does it make us feel. Do we feel like we are in her
head?
Think Small, Produce Big!
Or maybe two comments or critiques per week to match our two actual published works per week?
What if we make a rule about critiques and comments? I'm not sure what exactly, but something like.. you have to try to comment on or critique one of the entries in the challenge at least every other day? I don't know. Maybe it's just my frustration from lack of critiques speaking. I guess with posting every day, it's more discouraging to not get feedback, even though they're not "real" entries. If nothing else, it would help us get all the karma points we're going to need to keep participating in the challenge. Any thoughts?
I'm late too, I'll try to get 30 in, but it might just be 26, but what a great idea to get my block cleared. Don't know if they'll be any good. Flash is not my thing. But we'll see.
I'm still in! I'm just going to publish all of mine towards the end of the week---or tonight maybe. Anyone else having fun?
I started a day late! So I guess I'll only have twenty-nine. I had fun writing it, though, even if it is god-awful.
Ill repost this in my own words ( From Scribbles)
To post your short works:
Make 1 Published work and put in one story.
Edit that published post as you see fit
Acceptable ways: Post once you get 3-4 stories
Post one story a day and edit it every
day
Each Published work may only contain, AT the most 4 works, as per Scribophile decisions. Once you reach four works, you will need to publish another work for stories 5-8, and so on. You will spend about 15 Karma points of you do all 30 works this way.
Lets get the party started!
You can do this a few ways.
You can make one work now, and edit and publish every day
Save up a weeks worth and publish 2 works with the stories in
them
Wait till the end of the month and publish all the works you
need.
I leave it at your decision.
So.. I wrote my first story this morning. It's probably about 300-350 words long. We'll say it's called "Wasted Youth." Anyone else? Any ideas as to what we're doing with them yet (as far as posting and whatnot)?
where would we publish them? I mean on our pages or in the circle what?
Grr, I wish you didn't say that...now I'm afraid I'm going to get too caught up and start writing bigger stories and then fail miserably at this... oh, well, it's June...must carry on.
Don’t concern yourself with word count. Bit or small. Just write a story. A complete story. Beginning middle end. If you manage to write one in 200 words one day, but the next it takes you 1000, then so be it. The idea is to get a complete story in one day.
Oh, yeah...what's a page? I think hand-written might be 200, regular book pages are about 250-300, and if I'm writing on Word, that could be 600...so what are we shooting for here?
I'm up for it. Let's do this ![]()
woohoo!!! i'm excited. ;D
thanks for having the brainspurt, torq--and for spreading it around. yikes! tomorrow's june, isn't it?
The purpose of this group is to complete the June Challenge:
To write 30 complete one page stories, once a day, during the
month of June,
These stories do not have to be edited, or even that great. The
idea is to just write and get things out of you, and to help people
get over the fear, and belief that writing is reserved for the best
of ideas.
The stories you write this month will be horrible. One or two may
not be, but most will.
Presenting your Stories
You can post 7 stories in once and post it once a week ( which seems most probable)
You can wait till the end of the month and post 30 short stories in one work. ( I’m not sure one work would actually hold this though. It may though, someone check this for me)
Other then that. That’s all you need! Good Luck!
