Writing a rondeau is hard–everybody who got an entry in for this month’s contest should give themselves a pat on the back. We had a lot of great entries too! Sadly, we had to pass over a few excellent entries that had a few slip-ups on the strict rondeau form; it wouldn’t have been fair to the other entrants. Make sure to double-check your form before you submit, folks–it hurts us more than it hurts you!
On to the winners!
1st place, $50 Amazon.com gift card: Connection, by K. L. Raynor
We loved both the theme and execution in K.L.’s rondeau. It had a great, optimistic message, a quiet laugh or two, and a sense of wonder that made us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Well done!
2nd place, $25 Amazon.com gift card: Self, by Stewart Flintonlaubakersmith
The inimitable Stewart serves up a fine counterpoint to the optimism of K.L.’s piece with this bit of mortal introspection. A thumping meter, a fiery theme, and a pun or two make this one shine.
3rd place: Equality, by Ben Jacobson
Ben’s entry did an excellent job of juxtaposing writing, an act of emotional creation, with science, driven by logic and fact. The last line, “How rare a square?” becomes such a loaded question that it had us pondering it for days after!
Join us in congratulating our winners, and thanks to everyone who entered! Hang in there–results for November’s contest will be posted soon.
