Group-Sponsored Dirty Realism Contest
|Deadline:||August 31 (49 days left)|
The Transgressive Mind, in conjunction with the Crime Fiction group, is sponsoring a dirty realism contest. Dirty realism is a raw, often grimy, sometimes humorous, take on the human condition. Sparse, narrative tales of the invisible, the downtrodden, the less fortunate, the naked underbelly of society. The genre is unclean, inconvenient, undefined—just like the characters.
Perhaps your story is about a callous big city hustler, or a bored suburban trophy wife popping barbiturates. Maybe it’s about a Latina mother of three whose only escape is the Telenovela, or a former high school jock with big dreams, who changes oil by day and drinks beer in his trailer by night. Or it could be about a PTSD-stricken soldier who can’t forget no matter how many pills they give him.
It’s real. It’s ugly. It’s uncomfortable. It’s beautiful.
