Flash 500 Frontier Melodrama Contest
|Deadline:||Oct 19, 2012|
Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats! Our performance today is going to leave you rolling with laughter, weeping like the first time you watched "The Notebook," stunned by the sheer audacity of our hyperbole. Theatricality is the name of the game this time. Plot and action take precedence over characterization. You don't tell people your plans, you do them! Exaggerated action takes center stage in this month's Flash 500 contest theme: Melodrama.
You can't write a good melodrama without help, though. You're going to need someone to help push the emotions and situations to the extreme. That's why this is another team challenge. In no more than 1000 words, you'll pair up with another Scrib writer to create the next great Western melodrama. Where else do you find the best stock characters (desperado, rancher, The Sheriff, the lawless hero victimized by the banks/railroad) for the next great Frontier melodrama?
A Humble Request: Please list your co-author in the description of the piece, not the body of the piece. We want people to know who you worked with, but we don't want the judges to know.
Raise the curtains on this Wild West Melodrama!

Entries must be received before midnight of Friday, October 19th (UTC time) and the winners will be announced within one week of that date.
Entries must be a Wild West melodrama as describe above, no more than 1000 words.
Entries must have two Scribophile members for authors. Please list co-authors in the description, but not in the body of the piece.
Sharing what you've learned makes these mini-contests better for everybody: although we don't require it, we'd appreciate it if you come weigh in on the group discussion thread here.
Only one entry per pair, please. Multiple entries will all be disqualified.
Work must have Public visibility on Scribophile until a winner is announced.
Winners must have a valid PayPal account or we won't be able to send the prize money!
To enter the contest, post your work on Scribophile and check the box that says "Enter this work into the Flash 500 Frontier Melodrama Contest". The system will automatically enter your work. You can see this checkbox until the contest deadline, given in UTC time.
We don't charge anyone to enter, but you'll need karma points to publish your work. You can earn karma points by writing critiques of work by other members.
If you have placed in a contest in the past with a particular piece, you may not resubmit that piece in other contests.
