Member-Sponsored Why is it Winter? Contest

Details

Deadline:Jan 1, 2016
Fee:Free

The prompt is “Why is it winter?”. Writing a story to meet this prompts can be done in many ways. Most literally: you could re-write an existing myth on the topic (e.g. Persephone), or write a new one as world-building for your own fantasy setting. More metaphorically: the ‘winter’ could be an experience, event, time of life, et cetera, and your character(s) are dealing with that problem. More stylistically: the question could be incorporate in dialogue, or as part of a larger problem/riddle posed (e.g. as an ice-themed supervillain). Have fun with it! Judgements on stories will be open-minded regarding the incorporation of the prompt.

No minimum word count (if you can tell a story in 150 words that’s fine), max of 3,000 words. So anything from flash to short -story.

Poetry, prose poetry, genre fiction and literary fiction all allowed. Will attempt to select a diverse mix for the three prizes, but in the end the best work will win.
