How Our Writing Classes Work

Our writing classes are conducted entirely online, so you can participate from anywhere in the world. All you need is an internet connection!

Class basics

Classes are organized on Scribophile. Each class has a private group on Scribophile, where the instructor and the students can chat in a private discussion forum. These discussions aren’t live; rather, students check in from time to time to ask questions and hold discussion, and the instructor checks in too, to answer questions and conduct the class. You can participate in the class forum at any time of day or night.

Each week the instructor will distribute written lessons and assigments. Take them in at your own speed and discuss them in the classroom forum that’s open 24/7. Most classes also have prescheduled videoconferences throughout the class session, so you can talk to the instructor and your fellow students live.

You’ll interact with the instructor and your fellow students in the class forum throughout the week, at your own schedule.

Completing assignments

Most classes have assignements handed out at the beginning of the week to help you exerise the core concepts you’re learning in the class. You can complete those assignments at your own pace. When they’re due, you can submit them to your class’s Scribophile group using the Post assignment button on the class’s group page.

Videoconferences

Many of our classes feature prescheduled videoconferences with the instructor and the students so you can get live lessons and insights, and ask questions in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Videoconferences will be recorded, so you can review them again later.

A consistent internet connection is required to participate in class videoconferences. You don’t have to appear on camera or speak if you prefer not to.

Unless otherwise noted, all videoconferences are held over Zoom.
