How have your ups and downs, wins and losses shaped your life? Whether you want to write privately or wish to publish, identifying the turning points and themes in your life is an important first step in memoir writing. This workshop is for writers who want to identify compelling themes for writing stories about their lives.

In this workshop, participants will reflect on the transformational seasons in their lives and associate stories and themes to each one. Through hands-on, interactive exercises, we will explore the dynamics of character development and narrative arc and learn techniques to capture universal meaning through personal experiences.

You will come away with a timeline technique to uncover your life themes and storylines, a bank of memories to serve as writing prompts, and tips for starting a memoir journaling practice.

Student praise for GG Renee Hill

GG’s workshops are always quite transformative for me. Her engaging style and supportive nature make it easy to explore the uncharted territory of my creative efforts. I appreciate the structured approach she takes, as it turns previously daunting goals into the achievable. I also value her commitment to creating a safe and exploratory environment where we can take chances and push boundaries while moving at the pace that is right for us. This helped me find a level of ease in facing my own discomfort. No matter where you are in your creative journey, I’m certain you’ll find value in GG’s programs.

My coaching session with GG launched me into a space where I could bring form to my long-held book ideas. She was prepared for our meeting, sent pre-work so that we could make the most use of our time, and the process was smooth and organized. Our agenda aligned with my goals and she provided a practical system to get me into gear – such as creating an outline, breaking down content into themes, and other formatting techniques. Not only did she help tremendously with clarifying the structure and logistical aspects of my writing, but through her gentle and relatable words she ignited something in my soul so that I could fully embrace my reason for sharing my message with the world. This foundation was necessary to face my fears and I have been writing every day since! GG is a true gem and a great gift to the writing community.

—Lindsey Van Wagner

Taking a workshop with GG is witnessing a master facilitator. GG is an expert at bringing all the participants gently into the group and holding space for whatever comes up. I felt a deep connection to the other women in the group and was able to rewrite some of the old stories I’ve been telling myself. Participating in a workshop with GG is transformative!
