Group-Sponsored Crafting the Short Story Presents: What's It All About? Contest

Group-Sponsored Crafting the Short Story Presents: What's It All About? Contest

Details

Deadline:Apr 15, 2017
Fee:Free

This contest is sponsored by the Crafting the Short Story group.

Apply the elements of writing to craft a short story. Include your theme as a phrase or sentence at the top of your work. Your theme should not be a one-word motif, nor a plot logline.

Either engineer the elements of writing (character, plot, word choice, scene development, etc.) from your theme, or unearth your theme after you've finished your piece.

By way of illustration, if your motif is "love," symbols of such will be strewn throughout your piece, but theme makes you pick a side. It will answer any question you choose about that topic. For example, if you want to explore how far a person will go for love, theme is what answers that question by the end of the piece.

Judging will be based on the following criteria: use of theme and other literary elements (i.e., character/setting/conflict/plot/pov), originality/impact, and spag/syntax.

Enjoy the process.
