For this contest, stories should begin with the line “Christmas was over, and I had seven days left to kill.” Stories should be crime focused, but don’t necessarily have to have a murder in them! Other than beginning with the provided opening line and having a crime focus, the interpretation of the theme is up to the entrant. Complete short stories only please, up to 3,000 words.

Rules

  • To enter the contest, post your work on Scribophile and check the box that says "Enter this work into the Group-Sponsored Crime Fiction Contest". Your work will automatically be considered.

  • The checkbox will be visible until the contest deadline, which is in UTC time.

  • Entry is free, but you'll need karma points to post your work. You can earn karma points by writing critiques of work by other members.

  • No novel chapters, please.

  • Only new, previously unpublished work will be accepted.

  • Honorable mentions will be notified in the contest thread in the forums and via scratchpad of authors.

Submission guidelines

  • Submissions as per Scribophile guidelines, flash fiction or short stories of 3,000 words or less.

  • The contest will run from now until Midnight, January 1st 2016, UTC. The winner will be announced by the end of that month.

  • Max one entry per person. Further entries will be disqualified.

  • Work must have Public visibility on Scribophile until winners are announced.

  • Winners will be selected by a select bunch of group members.
