Group-Sponsored Experimental Holidays Contest 3

Group-Sponsored Experimental Holidays Contest 3

Details

Deadline:Dec 31, 2020
Fee:Free

The holiday season is underway, and members of the Experimental Writing 101 Group want to read your experimental holiday stories!

What do we mean by experimental? We’re talking about fiction that experiments with form. The best experimental writing still tells a story. Here’s an example from last year’s contest. It’s a letter, and it's also a listicle, but it still tells a story.

We want you to tell a holiday themed story using one of the following prompts:

  1. Write a Listicle. Examples you could use here are a Christmas list, or a list of New Year’s resolutions.

  2. Write a Dialogue Only story (bonus points for more than 2 people in the story). Examples could be something like a conversation between a child and Santa, or a conversation between family members at Thanksgiving dinner.

  3. Epistolary. Tell a story in a letter or an email. Maybe a letter to Santa?

  4. Give us a story in Stream of Consciousness: A holiday rant? Maybe a rant from a disgruntled store worker during the holiday season, or an angry elf.

Of course the examples are only that, examples. We want you to be creative and most of all, have fun, just be sure you use one of the four prompts, and tell us which one you chose in your story description.

The contest will run thru December 31st, 12:00 pm UTC time. Good luck, and Happy Holidays!

Prize money for this contest is provided by the Scribophile Writing Contest Prize Fund.
