Group-Sponsored Holiday Celebration Mini-Contest
|Deadline:||Dec 25, 2012|
It's Christmas! We're listening to songs about Christmas, we're being subjected to tinfoil and bored-looking teenagers in elf suits, we've got glitter in impossible places. I don't want to torture your creative bone with MORE Christmas.
But, The New Fairy Tale group has been inspired by the sense of a season at this time of year. So here's the gig: write a flash or short story that features a seasonal celebration in no more than 4500 words. Your entry should include the following:
- Elements of a fairy tale (you can read more about that here).
- The sense of a season (spring, summer, autumn, or winter). I can also be Christmas, Ramadan, a hunting season, harvest time, etc.
- Your entry has to include one or more characters based on the following: a mythical hero (one that actually exists in texts somewhere: Prometheus, Perseus, Theseus, Odysseus, etc.), a witch (male or female, either is fine), and/or a fairy of any mythical origin.
- A celebration, as in a seasonal festival (Bel Tine, Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, or you can make up your own).
The deadline is December 25th and winners will be announced on January 7th, 2013. If you have questions or concerns, head on over to The New Fairy Tale Discussion Board and ask away!

Entries must be received before midnight of Tuesday, December 25th (UTC time) and the winners will be announced on January 7th, 2013.
Entries must be no more than 4500 words per Scribophile's count about a seasonal celebration as described above.
Sharing what you've learned makes these mini-contests better for everybody: although we don't require it, we'd appreciate it if you come weigh in on the group discussion thread here.
Only one entry per author. Multiple entries will all be disqualified.
Work must have Public visibility on Scribophile until a winner is announced.
To enter the contest, post your work on Scribophile and check the box that says "Enter this work into the Group-Sponsored Holiday Celebration Mini-Contest". The system will automatically enter your work. You can see this checkbox until the contest deadline, given in UTC time.
We don't charge anyone to enter, but you'll need karma points to post your work. You can earn karma points by writing critiques of work by other members.
If you have placed in a contest in the past with a particular piece, you may not resubmit that piece in other contests.
