Member-Sponsored AI Singularity Contest

Member-Sponsored AI Singularity Contest

Details

Deadline:Sep 17, 2021
Fee:Free

Write a short story describing the impending AI singularity, the events leading up to it, and its consequences.

An AI singularity is where an Artificial Intelligence starts to reprogram itself and becomes exponentially more intelligent. Will the singularity lead to disaster or nirvana for mankind? If you choose, the AI singularity may be averted. Suspense, tension, and drama are expected.

Stories must be hard sci-fi. I am expecting you to address a realistic idea of what such an AI might be. Will poorly chosen goals lead to disaster? What are the philosophical arguments for the morality of constructing such a beast?

Stories can be up to 6,000 words, by Scribophile’s count. If your story is longer than 3,000 words, you must post it in two parts.

Prize money for this contest is provided by the Scribophile Writing Contest Prize Fund.
