Member-Sponsored Ancestral Letters Contest

Member-Sponsored Ancestral Letters Contest

Details

Deadline:Jun 30, 2019
Fee:Free

For this contest, you must pretend you have been asked to write a letter that will be placed in a time capsule scheduled to open in two hundred years. You must assume that the capsule will be discovered and opened and that the person who opens it will be able to read it. Your task is to explain, from your personal perspective, why it’s so hard us to make the changes in our lifestyle to help stop the climate from changing into a less hospitable place for them. Try to write it for the first person to open the capsule and read your letter, not a group of people. Try to avoid scientific brilliance or passing the responsibility for our actions onto any government. This contest is about showing thoughtfulness and compassion for a future generation who may not understand the challenges we faced in our time.

Think about your life and the challenges you personally face in making decisions to lessen your impact on the environment. If you never think about it, then this contest is a good place to start. Try to connect with the person who will be reading it and craft the best letter you can. Good luck.
