Member-Sponsored Fantastic Perspectives Contest

Details

Deadline:Nov 30, 2018
Fee:Free

Another contest for all those fantasy writers out there! Brandish your sorcerous pens, call on your vast pools of imagination, and prove yourself a master of the fantastical!

The challenge:

In 3,000 words or less, write a full-length short story from the PoV of a creature you’d typically find in the fantasy genre, whether it be monster, animal, or Fae. Such creatures include—but are certainly not limited to—pixies, dragons, trolls, giants, brownies, harpies, faeries, etc. You can also choose to write a story from the eyes of a real animal, so long as it boasts some kind of magical prowess.

Of course, if you’d rather create your own unique creature, that’s most encouraged!

C’mon, all you brilliant minds! Can you dig deep into a non-human’s head and write from their perspective? Can you tell their story?

Submitted stories will be judged on the following:

Perspective—if you’re writing the PoV of a more bestial character, their thoughts shouldn’t be analytical or too “human,” unless there’s a specific reason for it. Tell the story the way the creature would see it. The deeper into the mind of the character, the better.

Story-telling (e.g. story structure, pacing, immersion, plot).

Technical ability (e.g. sentence structure, flow, SPaG).

Prize money for this contest is provided by the Scribophile Writing Contest Prize Fund.
