Member-Sponsored Not Safe For Trick Or Treating Horror Contest

Details

Deadline:Oct 21, 2022
Fee:Free

I’m looking for Flash Fiction up to 500 words that are in the horror genre for the Halloween season.

I see flash fiction as a complete but short story with a journey arc and a twist ending (twist optional). The story you write, therefore, should have a beginning, middle, and end but written in only 500 words or less. I love drabbles and they should be exactly 100 words not including the title. Indicate if you intended your story to be a drabble. Please give your story a title.

Use the photo you see in the upper left hand corner as a prompt, but a prompt is only what it is—the story you come up with is entirely your own sparked by the picture. I won’t be looking for all the elements in the photo.

No adult labels or gratuitous gore, please.

Prize money for this contest is provided by the Scribophile Writing Contest Prize Fund.

An Interesting Tidbit

Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick was so unpopular that it was essentially a lost work until 1930, when it was “rediscovered” by a scholar.
