Member-Sponsored Vacation Madness Contest
Details
Deadline: | Aug 1, 2013 |
Fee: | Free |
Ahh, those hard-earned vacations! You toil at work for months, saving enough money to spend two weeks basking in the sun or wallowing in the snow. Every minute is planned so you can kick back and forget about everything back home. There are those of us to leave technology behind—no cell phones or laptops to interrupt the bliss. Others take a working vacation, attending a conference and then extending their stay with family in tow.
But something invariably happens, no matter how well planned. Take, for instance, the week we spent at the beach. We rented the perfect town house, the ocean in front of us, the bay behind. We allowed our children to each bring a friend to keep them occupied. We paid extra to bring the dog so the poor baby wouldn’t be in a kennel. What we didn’t realize: the only spot of grass in the entire area for our doggie to potty was between the house and the beach, on the median of a four-lane highway and literally one foot square. And when said canine played in the surf, chasing imaginary sharks and biting at the ocean water, said water would be regurgitated on the living room carpet about an hour later.
How about those great video moments, caught when your spouse tumbles down the ski slope? You’re laughing your ass off, the camera shakes, and he doesn’t talk to you for four months, especially after you post it to YouTube. Well, it was funny at the time, but the resulting silence certainly helps with your writing endeavors.
Your task is to write a comic event (either real or fiction) in 2500 words or less in any genre. Make us laugh, for the biggest guffaw will win 30 karma points. To get your creative juices flowing, let this inspire you!
