What can I do at Scribophile?
Scribophile is a huge writing community with resources for writers of all skill levels.
What stage of your writing journey are you at?
I want to write, but I don’t know how to start.
-
Participate in our free daily online writing sprint, Writing Together.
The best way to start learning to write is by keeping a daily writing habit. You don’t have to know a thing about writing to show up and put a few words down on the page — it’s the habit that’s important. Writing Together is perfect for building and maintaining a writing habit!
-
Read about the craft in our free Writing Academy.
To start learning the fundamentals, check out our free Writing Academy for hundreds of articles covering everything from the basics to advanced topics.
-
Chat with writers in our Writing Forums.
The Forums are where writers of all skill levels meet to chat. Our forums are busy with writers from all over the world chatting 24×7. Fill out your personal profile, see what people are discussing, ask your own questions, and make friends!
-
Practice with our free weekly Writing Challenge.
Each Monday we post a new writing prompt to inspire you to write a short story. These challenges aren’t graded or critiqued — instead, they’re a way for you to practice your writing muscle in a fun, judgement-free way. Once you’ve submitted your entry, read what other members wrote to see how they approached the same prompt. (By the way, a great time to work on your entry is at Writing Together!)
-
Give feedback on what other writers have posted.
Giving feedback is one of the best ways of learning how to look at your own writing with a critical eye. You don’t have to be a pro to let a writer know what did or didn’t work in their story — anyone can give feedback, even if they’ve never done it before. Check out our guide to writing a great critique for lots of helpful pointers. (Oh, and you’ll earn karma points while you’re at it!)
-
Once you’re ready, submit some writing for feedback!
The heart of Scribophile is our feedback system, which gets you guaranteed feedback on your writing from writers from all over the world. You can submit anything at all for feedback — it doesn’t have to be a totally finished work. Poems, flash fiction, short stories, nonfiction, drafts of absolutely any stage — absolutely everything is accepted, and we’d love to help you improve it!
I’m working on a draft of a story or novel.
-
Submit chapters for feedback to the Main Spotlight.
The heart of Scribophile is Main Spotlight, which is where you can post your work for guaranteed feedback without having to meet or manage readers. You can post anything, from early drafts to polished revisions — our members will help you improve your writing, no matter what stage it’s in. Read about how to post your first work for critique and about how our . system works
-
Join groups to share your writing with writers with the same interests.
Groups are a great way to meet and chat with other writers who are reading and writing the same kind of stories that you are. You can join as many groups as you like, and each one has its own discussion forum that you can use to chat about anything!
-
Get feedback from a group of trusted critique partners in your Personal Spotlight.
Once you’ve joined some groups and made some friends, post your work to the Personal Spotlight to get more critiques for your spend. The Personal Spotlight awards maximum to your followers and groupmates, and you get 6 critiques instead of 3 for the Main Spotlight — but the tradeoff is that your posts aren’t visible in site listings, so you have to personally ask your frends and groupmates to critique.
-

Finishing your draft is all about keeping up momentum, and getting some words down every day is the key to maintaining that momentum. Writing Together is perfect for building a writing habit that will help you finish that draft!
